Calling All Fathers - part 2

Malachi 4:5–6 (NKJV)

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

6 And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.

When destruction was coming to Sodom and Gomorrah – three men appeared to Abraham and Sarah. Two of the men were angels, and the third was the Lord Himself (Genesis 18:13). The Lord prophesied they would have a child in their old age and be the parents of many nations. Then, as the angels were leaving they were given instructions by the Lord to inform Abraham about the coming destruction… because of a particular characteristic Abraham had.

Genesis 18:16–19 (NKJV)

16 Then the men rose from there and looked toward Sodom, and Abraham went with them to send them on the way.

17 And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing,

18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”

What was the characteristic Abraham had that convinced the Lord to warn him about the coming destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? It was due to the fact he would “command his children and household to keep the way of the Lord.”

You and I are a part of the great and mighty nation (the descendants) of Abraham. Maybe not by blood, but by faith. Abraham is the greatest evangelist in the history of all mankind. He did not do it by large evangelistic meetings, or a worldwide TV ministry. He did it at home. Are we in Sodom today? Do we want to reach the world for Jesus? Do we want to be ready and prepared for His coming? I suggest we start with our households. Calling all Fathers!

Pay attention – more tips coming.

I call you blessed,

Pastor Jim
